How to Get Your Venue Ready for a Summer Wedding

If you’re planning a wedding next summer and have already picked out your venue, you may be wondering how to decorate your space so that it represents you and your partner’s relationship and individual flair. Well, whether your venue is indoors or outdoors, we’re here to help with ideas on how to decorate the space in a way that is summery, fresh, and bound to impress your guests…

Choose your colours wisely

A great starting point to help you pick out decorations such as flowers, tablecloths and seat covers, is to decide on a colour palette that you love.

Whilst the colours you choose don’t need to match exactly, ensuring you choose complementary colours will help unite the whole look.

For a summer wedding, think about colours that portray a fun, relaxed atmosphere, such as yellow, orange, lime, and magenta. Pick three colours that you like and keep it vibrant; you can always throw in a neutral tone such as beige for a little balance too.

If bright colours don’t fit your tastes, you can stick with pastels and neutrals; just be sure to keep things light by avoiding dark colours.

Outdoor weddings

Outside weddings offer a different charm by adding the backdrop of a perfect summer’s day. This, of course, means that the look and feel will need to be perfectly suited to this environment. Below are some ideas we feel complement the décor already provided by the sun.

Choose flowers wisely

Do your research before choosing your flowers, as delicate blooms are likely to wilt in the summer heat. Go for something hardy that won’t be intimidated by a bit of sun, such as Portulaca Grandiflora (Rose Moss) or African Daisies. You could even have wooden or paper flowers instead—not only will these add a rustic touch, but you can also rest assured that they won’t wilt on you!

Consider a laidback theme!

We suggest going boho (or a similarly relaxing theme) for your outdoor venue; after all, there is no better time to invoke a free-spirited, carefree aesthetic than at a summer wedding!

Boho style

To achieve that feel, look to nature for inspiration and include elements like greenery, wooden signs, feathers and floral crowns, all of which will add a whimsical touch to your special day!

You can even get creative by designing your altar, and one great idea is to use pole structures, including teepee poles. They’re bound to wow your guests!

Choose the right lighting

It’s important to consider your lighting for your outdoor venue. A great way to keep the chilled mood going after the sun goes down is to string up some fairy lights or look into renting some old-fashioned lamp posts. Not only will that stop your guests standing on each other’s toes, but it’ll also add a touch of magic to proceedings.

As an act of kindness as the evening wears on, why not offer flip flops to your guests to give tired toes a treat? That way, your guests don’t have to worry about trudging through the grass in heels and smart shoes and can dance the night away!

If our choices have helped persuade you that an outdoor venue is right for your wedding, why not look into our Princess Pavilion. The Pavillion's outside space holds an Edwardian bandstand looking over Falmouth Bay, providing an elegant scene when accompanied by a summer’s day. For more information on the venue click here

Indoor weddings

If you’ve settled on a beautiful indoor location, such as a grand hall or a hotel, you have the benefit of air conditioning to keep you and your guests cool as you celebrate throughout the night.

However, you don’t have the sun to lend a helping hand as a stunning backdrop, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring summer indoors by decorating your venue in a way that shows off the best the season has to offer!

Stay light and airy

When it comes to choosing fabrics to decorate your tables and chairs, go for light, transparent fabrics, such as lace or silk organza. A sprinkling of sequins is also a nice touch as it will reflect any light in the room
.
If you want to add a summery, rustic vibe to your décor, we can think of nothing better than decorating your chairs in old lace tablecloths, complete with a flower. The touch of whimsical charm will delight your guests!

Get floral

As your wedding is indoors and you don’t have to worry about wilting flowers, the world is your oyster when it comes to choosing which blooms to display. Choose summer flowers such as hydrangeas, peonies, roses, sweet peas, sunflowers, delphiniums, or zinnias to add a gorgeous, cheerful tone to your venue.
